Essentia Health

St. Mary’s Medical Center, The Birthplace

State of the Art Delivery

After a successful NICU project, Essentia continued to team with LHB to update their existing labor and delivery department. The project provided state of the art delivery rooms and amenities for the department.

Each of the LDRP, Postpartum, and Long Term Stay rooms boast a jetted tub and nature-inspired finishes, as well as baby washing stations, allowing families to participate in the care of the infant. The headwall was relocated to provide more space for the families and allow for more room to move around.  In addition, casework was designed to hide medical equipment, improve storage, and provide display areas for personal items, giving the rooms a more home-like setting.

Beyond the rooms, the newborn care area was expanded to allow for larger procedure space and overflow for the NICU. The care team spaces were strategically positioned to provide the best access and visibility for both patients and family members.

The remodel gave a much-needed upgrade to the aesthetics of the unit, making it more mother/baby friendly with the comforts of home.
