Sandstone Library Renovation
Revitalizing Sandstone’s Community Hub
For years, LHB partnered with the City of Sandstone to envision a combined library, arts, and history center to meet all three entities’ needs. However, due to space constraints, combining these facilities on a single property would have led to overcrowding.
In 2021, the City acquired the former PHASE building, paving the way for a dedicated new library facility. With support from a state library construction grant and a loan from the US Department of Agriculture, the City secured over $2 million for the renovation.
Our design team worked closely with city officials and library staff to transform the building into an impressive 8,700-square-foot facility, more than doubling the size of the previous location. The renovated Sandstone Library now serves as the vibrant community hub, offering a range of modern amenities aimed at enhancing user experience and fostering community engagement.

Welcoming Fireside Retreat
A double-sided fireplace welcomes you at the entrance, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Surrounded by comfortable seating, it’s an ideal spot to relax with a book, enjoy quiet conversation, or simply take in the serene ambiance.

Tailored Learning Spaces
The library features dedicated areas for children and teenagers, each thoughtfully designed to meet their unique needs and interests. The children’s section includes interactive learning tools, age-appropriate books, and cozy reading nooks. The teen area offers a dynamic environment with study spaces, technology access, and areas for socializing and collaborative projects.

Multi-Use Event Space
This versatile space is perfect for hosting a range of events, including community meetings, workshops, book clubs, and cultural programs. Equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, it ensures seamless presentations and interactive sessions. A small kitchen is also available, allowing participants to enjoy beverages and snacks during their gatherings.
