Seven Years in the Making
LHB led the site selection, survey, and engineering for eight new pump stations and upgrades two terminals. As the project progressed through environmental reviews and pipeline route selection, services were expanded to include a redesign of two pump stations moved as a result of route changes, design of two bridges to provide access for valve sites, and site design for a new maintenance shop.
Throughout the seven years of the project, LHB staff provided a multitude of services beyond our typical engineering and surveying. LHB provided AR/VR models for constructability review and community outreach, testified at hearings, worked with tribal members to address historic construction issues across the Fond Du Lac Reservation, created 3D printed models of the pump stations, and supported construction activities with embedded project management, construction surveying, and commissioning support.
Winter Construction
Due to the timing of regulatory approval for the project, winter construction of the new pump stations was needed to meet the in-service date. Temporary structures large enough to accommodate excavation activities, concrete deliveries, and crane movements were constructed over the new pump stations to control the climate and allow work to proceed over the course of a Minnesota winter.
Electrical Switchgear and VFD Buildings
Electrical switchgear and VFD buildings were needed for each of the new pump stations. LHB completed equipment sizing and layouts, procurement support services, building foundation designs and building access platform designs for the manufacture and installation of these buildings.
