Our passion for interior design and architecture shines bright when we channel it into creating exceptional spaces for our clients, and it becomes particularly meaningful when we use that same talent to craft something unique for a wishful child.
Colleagues from LHB recently went above and beyond to make a difference for a local family. Certified Senior Interior Designers Anne Porter, Jennifer Brunder, and Mariah Langer; Project Architect Caralyn Kieper; Safety Specialist John Lawless; and Interior Design Intern Brenna Bollins were thrilled to use their expertise – along with their workmanship skills and big hearts – to provide a bedroom interior design makeover for a young girl, Ava, through Make-A-Wish® Minnesota in Gilbert, Minnesota.
At the start of the project, Make-A-Wish Minnesota shared a list of Ava’s favorite things, highlighting her love for water and animals. The thoughtful list inspired the custom design concept. LHB presented digital image boards of the proposed bedroom design virtually to Ava and her family. Ava, who suffers from a gastrointestinal disorder, was excited to ask for jellyfish elements, a sensory wall, and a swing.
In addition to creating the bedroom design, selecting materials, and developing order lists, the group assembled the furniture and hung artwork, wallpaper, accent lighting, and decorations. The room was revealed to the family a few days before Ava returned from Children’s Hospital in Boston. She was thrilled and deeply appreciative of her finished bedroom.
“Our partnership with Make-A-Wish allowed our interior designers the opportunity to collaborate on a fun and rewarding project,” said Porter. “The experience opened everyone’s hearts to an amazing family – all while designing Ava a beach-themed bedroom with a cat-themed dormer hide-out.”
“As a local organization that grants wishes to children with critical illnesses in Minnesota, we can’t do what we do without our incredible community partners like LHB,” said Tori Schrantz, director of marketing and communications, Make-A-Wish Minnesota. “We are so grateful for their help in making Ava’s wish come true!” ∎
