Lift Station Forcemain Replacement
Forcemain replacement
An existing buried HDPE process sewer forcemain had experienced a handful of failures over the course of a decade. This project replaced that forcemain with an above-ground, 24-inch diameter, stainless-steel forcemain.
As part of the design work, an existing sheet pile retaining wall was studied to determine if it could support the new forcemain. The route was highly space-constrained and had to avoid a significant haul road, railroad tracks, wastewater treatment infrastructure, and substation. The path of the forcemain was also changed slightly to have continuous positive drainage and remain above grade.
To minimize disruptions, the line was constructed along its length and then tied in at each end during a major maintenance outage. The project was administered in two separate design and construction phases.
