Alliance Apartments Expansion

Old Meets New

A total of 61 new apartment units were added to the Alliance Apartments building in Minneapolis’s Elliot Park neighborhood in two buildings. The new four-story building has a link that connects it with an existing building and forms a private courtyard for resident use. As part of the site redevelopment, a large historic brick duplex was moved to the edge of the property and completely rehabilitated. This building, along with the individual front entries of some new first floor apartments, strengthen the pedestrian-oriented traditional residential character of the neighborhood. Sustainable features of the project include the reuse of existing building, salvage of existing materials, SIP walls on the new construction, thermal mass foundation walls, and energy efficient mechanical systems and controls. This award-winning project is also LEED certified.
