LHB CFO Lori Thompson Retires

For more than three decades, Lori Thompson has been a steady presence behind the scenes at LHB— shaping how LHB operates, serves its clients, and treats its staff. This year, Lori, LHB’s chief financial officer, is retiring.

Lori joined LHB as a bookkeeper in 1989, when the firm had roughly 40 employees and financial systems were still largely manual. Over time, her role evolved alongside the firm itself. In 2021, she became CFO and the first woman to join the firm’s leadership team. She helped guide LHB through continued growth while modernizing systems, strengthening transparency, and supporting a more equitable workplace. Today, LHB has increased in size to nearly 250 employees, and Lori has played a key role in facilitating that growth.

We asked Lori to reflect on her career, the changes she’s seen, and what she’s looking forward to next.

When did you start at LHB, and what was the firm like at the time?

I started in 1989 as a bookkeeper. We had around 40 people, and everything was done by hand. I carried ledgers and binders everywhere. It was a very different environment than it is today.

What are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen over the years?

The move from manual processes to fully automated systems is probably the biggest one. The firm has also grown significantly—from about 40 employees to roughly 250. Along with that growth came more structure, more leadership, and more opportunities to improve how we operate.

What changes are you most proud of?

The progress we’ve made around pay equity and pay transparency. We have invested in consultants to help review market rates, make adjustments, and create more transparent bonus structures. That work really impacts gender equity. We’ve seen meaningful improvements over the last couple of years.

What did you enjoy most about your role?

The people. I really appreciated working with dedicated, educated professionals who care about and support one another.

What are you looking forward to in retirement?

Travel, for sure, including international trips and visits to national parks. I’m also looking forward to spending time with my grandkids and volunteering at the local library.

LHB is grateful for Lori’s many years of service. We wish her all the best in retirement. ∎
