Becky Alexander Receives 2024 Young Architects Award

LHB is pleased to announce that Becky Alexander, architect and senior researcher, has been honored with the 2024 Young Architects Award from the American Institute of Architects Minnesota (AIA Minnesota).

The award jury recognized Alexander as a “citizen architect whose impact extends far beyond individual projects to create positive change in policymaking and community building.”

“Becky’s award is a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication,” says LHB CEO Jason Mangan. “Her achievements highlight both her professional excellence and the caliber of talent we attract and nurture at LHB. We are incredibly proud of her impact and contributions.”

The Young Architects Award was presented last week at AIA Minnesota’s Awards Celebration, a notable event that also recognized Alexander for her participation in AIA Minnesota’s 2024 Leadership Forum — a seven-month program dedicated to honing the leadership skills of mid-career architects. Maureen Colburn, AIA, LHB’s climate solutions focus leader and a past AIA Minnesota Leadership Forum participant, nominated Alexander for this year’s Forum stating, “Becky continually brings her inquisitiveness to our team discussions about creating regenerative communities, advancing climate action, and delivering research for the built environment.”

Alexander joined LHB as an architectural intern in 2012 and has become a leader in the field of energy and climate action planning, scaling up her impact to extend beyond buildings to statewide climate initiatives. As part of LHB’s climate solutions studio, she uses her background in design thinking to envision better futures and make data actionable. Developers, community organizations, and local governments rely on LHB to help achieve their climate goals by analyzing existing conditions and recommending climate mitigation actions and adaptation strategies. Alexander and Colburn also support statewide sustainability initiatives through their work on the management team of Minnesota’s B3 program which aims to reduce energy and carbon, enhance occupant well-being, and improve environmental quality in public buildings.
