Collaborative Efforts Improve Infrastructure
LHB provided engineering services for the reconstruction of 5th Avenue West (CSAH 15) from Trunk Highway 61 to County State Aid Highway 7 in Grand Marais. The project consisted of full-depth pavement reconstruction; replacement of curb and gutter; storm sewer; underground stormwater treatment and detention; concrete walks and ADA compliant pedestrian ramps. Other goals included determining the need and designing on-street parking and walks along the project corridor. Public meetings were held to get input from residents. The project also included the replacement of City water and sanitary sewer. The project was designed according to County, City, and State Aid requirements.
Improved Drivability and Accessibility
The roadway was in poor and deteriorating condition. The project included improving the drivability of the street; adding pedestrian facilities and improving accessibility; reducing maintenance; improving drainage, and replacing deficient storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water infrastructure.
Improved Stormwater System
Underground stormwater storage was installed to provide retention and rate control.
